Frequent Questions

This section is a compilation of answers to the questions most commonly asked by our constituents. Just start by following one of the links below. If you can’t find the question you wanted to ask, don’t hesitate to contact us.

  1. The High Desert Partnership exists to get people and organizations together to solve important challenges facing Harney County. We like to use the analogy of a wagon wheel. We are the hub of the wheel and all of our partners are the spokes. Ensuring that meetings are held, funding is available, important information is accessible, and that all stakeholders are present are just a few of the things we do to support our initiatives.

Harney County has a rich history of conservation and land stewardship that we wish to carry on. Our region and our communities depend on healthy natural resources, which are the driver of the rural economies in the region. Our mission is to advocate for solutions that are economically, socially and ecologically sound and that are developed collaboratively by all stakeholders.

  2. Why do we collaborate?

Collaboration creates a strong support base in the community and among partners. More resources are available when effective partnership is demonstrated through collaboration.

  3. Isn't collaboration the same as mediation?

No it isn't! Mediation is when a dispute requires intervention in order to resolve it. While there is dispute around some of the initiatives we are working on, we go beyond the dispute to enhance the ecological sustainability, economic well-being and social vitality of our communities. All of the groups that we work with in the community are seeking a common solution, but it takes an organization like The Partnership to assemble and organize everyone so that we not only reach a solution, but are able to continue to build on our success.

  4. We’re always looking for individuals like you who want to make a difference in this world. Visit our Get Involved section to discover ways to donate or volunteer.

  5. Money donated to the partnership is used to help us coordinate, organize, and facilitate our initiatives. We spend a lot of time contacting potential interested parties, writing literature for initiatives, arranging meetings, seeking out funding, and disseminating information. Your donation will help us carry out these activities and achieve our goals!
